What is Student Gauge?
Student Gauge allows you to proactively measure the engagement levels of your learners in relation to their overall experience at your school, college or place of learning. It covers their whole environment so it will complement the more academic related quality control checks that you already have in place, like the NUS Survey.

Ofsted’s new Chief Inspector, Sir Michael Wilshaw, announced plans to introduce no-notice inspections for all regular school inspections from September 2012. Ofsted already undertakes unannounced inspections in a number of circumstances, including where concerns are raised about a school and for some satisfactory schools that do not show enough capacity to improve. Speaking about the plans, Sir Michael Wilshaw HMCI, said: 'Ofsted has been moving towards a position of unannounced school inspection over a period of years. I believe the time is now right for us to take that final step and make sure that for every school we visit inspectors are seeing schools as they really are in the corridors, classrooms and staff room.
As a primary school we are very familiar with the process of self-evaluation. We are concerned with measuring our performance in relation to our data, to how we relate to the immediate and wider community etc. Since having engaged with Student Gauge and People Gauge we have realised that we can effectively collect quantitative and qualitative data on the main driver of our school's business i.e. how engaged with the teaching and learning process our key stakeholders are namely our staff and our children. It could be argued that this previously invisible strata of information on our school becomes a prime driver in the improvement of our school. Student Gauge and People Gauge gives us dependable and clear information which enables us to find clear routes to improving our school with a profound understanding of where to meet the needs of the most important groups in our community. If you want to move any organisation forward how could this ever be achieved without a clear picture of the engagement of the people in it and this is particularly true of schools.
